Samuel G. Edgar - The Bradford Era, Thurs., September 26,

Samuel G. Edgar, 91, retired glass cutter, died at his home tin Custer City
yesterday afternoon following an illness.
Mr. Edgar was born on May 8, 1866 at Bath, NY and was the son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. William J. Edgar. He had worked in various glass plants at Coudersport,
Smethport, Hasel Hurst and Mt. Jewett, retiring some time ago.
He was a member of the Degolia Evangelical United Bretheren Church, Masonic
Lodge No. 627, Free and Accepted Masons, at Mt. Jewett; and the Coudersport
Consistory.
Preceding Mr. Edgar in death on Nov. 23, 1843, was his wife, the former Ada
Doan, and a son, Albert, on Aug. 12, 1952,
Surviving are two sons, Edward, at home and LeRoy, Cyclone; three daughters,
Mrs. Florence Mulholand, at home, Mrs. Dorothy Walker, Waynesboro; and Mrs. Mary
L. Valentine, Robinson, IL; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews.
Funceral services will be held in the home at 1:30 pm Saturday. The Rev.
James Thompson, pastor of the Degolia EU Church, will officiate.
His Masonic Lodge will conduct a memorial service at the home at 8pm today.
Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park at Lafayette, Arrangements are under the
direction of the Koch-Chatley Memorial Chapel.

Well known resident of Degolia dies after 3 year illness
Funeral services for Mrs. Ada Edgar, 75, who died at her home in Degolia
yesterday morning at 9:20 o'clock, will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30
o'clock at the United Brethren church of Degolia. The Rev. C.E. Dibble,
pastor, and the Re. Arra D. McGill, pastor of the Rixford United Brethren
church, will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot of the McKean
County Memorial park.
Mrs. Edgar had been in ill health for the past three years but her
condition had not been considered critical until a few hours preceding her
death.
Born November 10, 1868, at Covington, PA., Mrs. Edgar had lived here for the
past 16 years. She was a member of the United Brethren church of Degolia
and took an active part in church work.
Survivors besides her husband, Samuel G. Edgar, include three sons, Edward G.
Edgar, Degolia, Albert L Edgar and LeRoy Edgar, both of Cyclone, PA; three
daughters, Mrs Florence Mulholland of New London, Conn., Mrs. Dorothy Walker of
Republic, PA, and Mrs James Valentine, 117 Williams street, Bradford; 11
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Koch-Chatley Memorial
chapel.

Edward G. Edgar, 79 of Custer City, died Saturday afternoon of an apparent heart
attack en route to Bradford hospital He had been in failing health for the
past three years.
Mr. Edgar was born March 28, 1890, at Wellsboro, a son of the late Samuel G. and
Ada Doan Edgar.
He was retired from the oil fields of Minard Run Oil Co. in 1955.
Mr. Edgar was a member of the Lewis Run Evangelical United Bretheran Church, the
Union Lodge 334. F&AM. of Bradford, and the Coudersport Consistory.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Ada Fisk of Westfield, N.Y.; three sisters
Mrs. Florence Mulholland of Custer City, Mrs Dorothy Walter of Waynesboro, and
Mrs. Mary L Valentine of Robinson Ill; and one brother, LeRoy Edgar of Cyclone.
Friends are being received at the Koch-Chatley Memorial Chapel where the funeral
service will be held at 11 am Tuesday with the Rev. Harold Burchek officiating.
Burial with be at McKean Memorial Park.

Smethport - Leroy Edgar, 82 of Cyclone died Monday at Port Allegany Community
Hospital.
He was born June 15, 1899, in Smethport, a son of Samuel G. and Ada Doan Edgar.
On Feb. 20, 1924, in Hazel Hurst, he married Helen Barber, who survives.
Mr. Edgar had been employed as a pumper for the South Penn Oil Co., retiring in
1964 after 40 years of service.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hazel Hurst; a Faith Partner
of the Liberty Baptist Church of Lynchburg, VA; and life member of the Hilltop
Volunteer Fire Department, which he helped organize; and was a first aid
director for the Bradford Red Cross for a number of years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Betty McMurtrie of
Bradford and Mrs. Ann Bloss of Smethport; Four grandchildren; two sisters,
Mrs Florence Mulholland of Bradford and Mrs. Mary Valentine of Pioneer, Ariz;
and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. Private funeral and committal services will
be held at the Gary K. Drum Funeral Home, Smethport, with the Rev. Glenn A
Hamilton, pastor of the Cyclone Free Methodist Church, officiating. Burial
will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.

Port Allegany - Cleon E. Edgar, 78, of 109 Francis Ave., Port Allegany, died
Sunday in his residence following a short illness. He was born Nov. 23,
1913, in Port Allegany, a son of Edward S. and Mary Jane Longshore. He was
employed as a linotype operator for a Reporter Argus newspaper for more than 30
years, retiring in 1978.
Mr. Edgar was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in Europe.
He was a member of American Legion Frank Burt Post and the Trinity United
Methodist Church.
Surviving are one brother, Russell Edgar of Port Allegany; and several nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
Friends will be received at the Robert J. Hartle Funeral Home from 10 to 11 am
Tuesday, at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. G. Kenneth
Tulloch, pastor of the Trinity Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in
Fairview Cemetery.

Port Allegany - Russell M. "Bumpy" Edgar, 96, of Combs Creek Road, RD 1,
died Thursday in Sena-Kean Manor, Smethport, after a lengthy illness.
He was born March 11, 1896, in Kane, a son of Edward and Mary Jane Longshore
Edgar. He married Marguerite Seyler in 1922. She died in 1976.
Mr. Edgar was a World War I veteran having served in the US army. He
received a certificate of recognition from the French government for service
rendered to France during the war.
He was a retired glass cutter of the former Allegany Window Glass Co. in Port
Allegany.
a lifetime resident of the area, he attended the Wrights Evangelical Church.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Switzer Funeral Home after 7pm. today and until the time
of services at 11 am Saturday with the Rev. H.D. Youngblood Jr., pastor of the
Wrights Evangelical Church, officiating. Burial will be in. Fairview

Signe Edgar - The Bradford Era, Thurs, December 5, 1991,

Smethport - Signe H. Edgar, 83, formerly of Rose Hill Avenue, died Wednesday in
Sena-Kean Manor.
She was born Feb. 12, 1908, in Port Allegany, a daughter of Oscar and Anne
Anderson Erickson. On Feb. 3, 1931, in Portville, N.Y., she married Gordon
S. Edgar, who died Sept 26, 1975.
Mrs. Edgar was a 1926 graduated of Port Allegany High School and was a member of
the United Methodist Church of Smethport.
She is survived by tow sons, William Edgar of Ridgway and Theodore Edgar of
Smethport; two daughters, Anne Defibaugh of Ridgway and Katheryn Van Mette of
Port Allegany; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend funeral
services at 11 am Friday at the Gary K Drum Funeral Home with the Rev. Emory
Billingsley, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial
will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Smethport.

Mrs Edgar, 81, Succumbs after 2-year illness
Funeral Services will be held at home on Wednesday
Eldred, Nov. 1 (Special) Mrs. Nellie Edgar, aged 81 , one of the oldest
residents of Eldred, died this morning at 1:10 o'clock at the home of her son,
James Edgar, in this place. She had been in ill health for the past two years
and her condition became critical following a stroke suffered two weeks ago.
Mrs Edgar was born April 9, 1962 in Tioga County. She came from Port Allegany to
Eldred in 1909. Her husband preceded her in death 42 years ago.
Mrs Edgar was a highly respected woman of this vicinity, and she was a member of
the Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Frank Edgar of Philadelphia, Dr. A.G. Edgar of
Shillington and James Edgar of Eldred and one sister, Mrs. Fannie Herrman of
Covington.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 at the home of James Edgar,
Rev. J.F. Fleming will officiate.
Burial will take place at the Chestnut Hill cemetery at Portville, NY
